Excited to see my kitchen lounge project published in Home + Garden @sandiegouniontribune If the kitchen has been dubbed the heart of the home then the refrigerator is the kitchen’s heartbeat. You can’t live without it. Layers of cool zones from built in, to undercounter drawers to wine columns continue to evolve in our spaces. Kitchen memoirs.....One of my awesome clients renovated their kitchen about three years ago. I asked her how her family is holding up during the Quarantine and if the renovated kitchen/family room has helped them thru it? I LOVE what she said: “Turning our outdated Colonial into a more modern, open floor plan was the best decision we made. We have loved the space that Michele designed since the moment we saw her initial drawings. Her philosophy of Poetic Modernism created a space that is modern, but not stark or cold. The cool colors bring a sense of tranquility, and the amount of natural light that fills the space makes it feel warm and inviting. The space has influenced everyone’s well- being during this time being locked up. Our favorite part of the space is the island in the center of the kitchen. It is our family gathering space and has increased our productivity and creativity. It provides ample space to spread out and do work, gather for meals, or even play games together. We are grateful for our updated space and would not change a single detail.”

Now that we are home all the time, I asked my client how she feels in her new space. This is what she said: “My new space gives me the feeling of joy, every time I walk into it. It’s light and bright which makes me feel lighter. The layout makes it so much easier for prepping, cooking. And the open space now into the family room makes it easy to entertain while cooking. I love working in this space now that I’m working from home because it’s so peaceful and light. A recent bonus I discovered, my island counter height is perfect for standing and typing, so I don’t wind up sitting all day. The human experience is something I always think about when I design spaces. Every detail in this bath design consummates well-being by touching the human senses with fire, water and earth. One of the most important rooms in your house is the bedroom...How can you take your bedroom to the next level why we all start to nest now? This bedroom for my client has a lacquered wall and a custom headboard which adds to the dreaminess. “A beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset” An architectural nod to a traditional 1890 Hoboken Brownstone was very important to my client.
